B. Braun to Launch Clinical Nutrition 360 at ASPEN

Company to showcase its total parenteral nutrition portfolio

Bethlehem, PA – February 12, 2015 – B. Braun Medical Inc. (B.Braun) announced today that it will officially launch Clinical Nutrition 360 at the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.) Clinical Nutrition Week 2015, Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center, Long Beach, CA, February 14-17, at booth #420. Clinical Nutrition 360 is a comprehensive approach designed to meet all nutrition admixing needs. Whether through outsourcing, or in-house compounding, B.Braun’s Clinical Nutrition 360 can help optimize the safe administration of the appropriate parenteral nutrition products for the individual needs of patients.

“We are excited and proud of our innovative full service offering approach via Clinical Nutrition 360,” said Rick Williamson, Vice President of Pharmaceutical Marketing at B.Braun. “We remain committed to providing the highest quality products and services that meet the individualized clinical needs of patients and our customers,” added Williamson.

B.Braun will also sponsor a breakfast symposium titled, “Parenteral Nutrition: Where we have been, where we are, where we are going,” which will be presented by Stanley J. Dudrick, MD, FACS, FACN. The symposium will be held on Tuesday, February 17 in the Centennial Ballroom, Salon A at the Westin Long Beach at 6:30 a.m. with breakfast beginning at 6:00 a.m. After hearing the presentation, attendees will be able to understand the historical ravages of starvation on medical and surgical outcomes, appreciate the many technical and technological advances in parenteral nutrition throughout the past five decades, and understand the multiple controversies which currently exist and must be resolved in order to provide optimal nutritional and metabolic support and treatment more consistently for critically ill malnourished or undernourished patients. Individuals interested in attending the breakfast symposium can click here to register.

In addition to the breakfast symposium, B.Braun will exhibit and feature its Central Admixture Pharmacy Services, Inc. (CAPS®) outsourcing admixture capabilities, Clinical Nutrition Parenteral Products and PINNACLE® TPN Management System at booth #420:

  • CAPS, the market leader in outsourced parenteral nutrition, is your source for outsourced compounding. With 23 regional locations, CAPS is an important component of Clinical Nutrition 360 by offering the largest network of pharmacies that deliver same-day customized compounding for neonates, pediatrics, and adults. For over two decades, CAPS has been delivering solutions, quality and confidence.
To further CAPS market leadership in outsourced TPN compounding, CAPS is launching a new Clinical Nutrition Consulting & Education Division. CAPS is pleased to announce that Sharon Durfee, 2015 ASPEN Distinguished Pharmacist award winner, will lead this effort.

  • B.Braun recently launchedNutrilipid® 20% (I.V. fat emulsion) in flexible containers that are not made with natural rubber latex, DEHP (a plasticizer and known toxicant) or PVC (a likely carcinogen when incinerated). Exposure to these toxic materials has been a growing concern for healthcare facilities around the world. Studies show that excessive exposure to DEHP can potentially lead to adverse health effects, especially to a patient’s liver, kidneys and lungs, as well as their heart rate and blood pressure.1 More than three decades ago, B.Braun recognized the environmental and patient risks posed by products containing DEHP and PVC. As a result, B.Braun was the first medical device manufacturer to remove these harmful substances from many products and today is the only supplier that offers a full line of solution containers that are not made with DEHP or PVC. B.Braun is a proud member of Practice Greenhealth, a membership organization for institutions and businesses in the healthcare field who are engaged in reducing their environmental footprints. The launch of Nutrilipid 20% will help alleviate the short supply of lipid emulsion products the U.S. has seen over the past few years.
  •  B.Braun’s clinical nutrition compounding offering now also includes Sterile Water for Injection USP in 2L and 3L TITAN® XL containers, which are not made with natural rubber latex, DEHP or PVC. These pharmacy bulk package new products will be used with B.Braun’s PINNACLE TPN Management System and other automated compounding devices. B.Braun offers a valued line of Parenteral Solutions to meet both basic and specialty nutrition needs, including some parenteral nutrition industry firsts such as TrophAmine®, HepatAmine® and ProcalAmine®.
  •  The PINNACLE® TPN Management System streamlines and manages all aspects of the TPN process, improving efficiency and safety when compounding in the pharmacy. The enhanced, easy-to-use PINNACLE TPN Manager Software, which allows pharmacists to enter orders remotely using iPads, will also be featured.
