B. Braun To Introduce Anesthesia Disinfection Workstation at APIC

APIC Conference 2017

BETHLEHEM, PA – June 13, 2017 — B. Braun Medical Inc. will highlight its commitment to reducing healthcare-acquired infections when it introduces new products that help reduce interaoperative bacterial contamination of stopcocks at the APIC conference being held June 14-16.

The Anesthesia Disinfection Workstation, which includes the new DOCit™ and HubScrub™ disposable sterilization devices, are designed to help organize the anesthesia work space in an operating room. The DOCit device is intended to disinfect and clean syringe tips and male luer connectors, and the HubScrub device is intended to disinfect and clean needleless connectors and stopcocks.

“In collaboration with SAXA Medical Solutions, LLC, B. Braun is bringing surgical suites the Anesthesia Disinfection Workstation system, which can reduce the incidence of stopcock contamination1,” said Steve Weber, Director of Marketing, IV Systems, B. Braun. “This workstation is designed to improve intravascular device disinfection in the operating room, which in turn can contribute to the reduction of healthcare-acquired infections.”4

The DOCit device for male luers is designed to organize and protect syringe tips from contamination. The DOCit device scrubs and disinfects male luer tip connectors and needleless syringes with 70 percent isopropyl alcohol (IPA).2 Disinfection of the male luer tip occurs after two 360-degree rotations within 10 seconds.3

The HubScrub device is a female luer disinfector and cleaner with 70 percent IPA. Disinfection of the needleless connector is achieved after two 360-degree rotations within 10 seconds.3 The HubScrub device can provide a microbial barrier to contamination for up to 7 days if not removed.2

“The peri-, intra- and post-operative venues have a tremendous opportunity and responsibility to safeguard vascular access for patients,” says Anthony J. Colantonio, M.D., DABA, Chief Medical and Innovations Officer, SAXA Medical Solutions. “The scientific evidence demonstrates an association between bacterial contamination of vascular access devices in the anesthesia work area and healthcare acquired infections.4

“The Anesthesia Disinfection Workstation and DOCit and HubScrub devices deliver unique functionality with practicality to facilitate a long-needed change in the culture of our infection control practices, as they are designed to meet the standards of vascular access care and reduce device contamination,” Colantonio said.

APIC attendees can learn more about the Anesthesia Disinfection Workstation and DOCit and HubScrub devices at the B. Braun booth # 545 at the conference at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.

In addition, B. Braun will sponsor “Improving Intravascular Device Disinfection in Today’s Operating Rooms: Clinical Implications, Methodology and Fidelity Measurement” presented by Randy Loftus, M.D., Associate Professor, Anesthesiology. The presentation will be held 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, in Oregon Ballroom 204, at the convention center. Complimentary breakfast will be served from 6 to 6:30 a.m. No registration is required.

The other B. Braun products to be featured at the show include: InVision-Plus CS® IV connector with Neutral Advantage Technology; STEADYCare™ extension set with the Wedge™ catheter stabilizer; Introcan Safety® IV catheter; and Ster-ASSIST™ Sterile peripheral IV catheter insertion kit.
