H.E.L.P., (Heparin-induced Extracorporeal LDL-Cholesterol Precipitation), is our new device that selectively removes low density lipoproteins for the treatment of severe cholesterolemia. The H.E.L.P. System, FDA cleared in 1997, is a major breakthrough for patients with severe Familial Hypercholesterolemia whose cholesterol levels remain high despite the latest diet and drug therapy. History dictates that if a patient with severe Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH) proves to be refractory to or intolerant of drug therapy, there are few alternatives. With the H.E.L.P. System these patients can now be effectively treated. The H.E.L.P. System incorporates an innovative therapeutic procedure known as LDL Apheresis, introduced in Europe in 1987, that has been extremely effective in selectively lowering LDL cholesterol in patients with severe Familial Hypercholesterolemia. In the U.S. and Europe, the H.E.L.P. System has been tested in over 100 centers and in more than 400 patients.
