Needlestick and Sharps Safety

Did you know that at least 1,000 healthcare workers are estimated to contract serious infections annually from needlestick and sharps injuries?

The passive Introcan Safety® IV Catheter is designed to minimize accidental needlesticks without requiring user activation. It is one of many B. Braun products designed to increase safety for healthcare workers and patients.

Another product is the ULTRASITE® Needle-Free IV System with positive displacement. It is designed to reduce accidental needlesticks when injecting, aspirating, or infusing fluids and medications. It can be used anywhere a standard injection cap is used and is compatible with leading pre-filled medication systems.

Rebound injuries are common with Huber needles due to the great deal of force required to overcome the resistance of the silicone septum. And they pose a particular risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens since they may be used for venous access with AIDS/HIV patients.1
