Venetec International, today announced agreements to enhance needlestick
safety for clinicians and patients in the United States and Canada
by combining best in class safety and securement products.
The two year
agreements, effective immediately, call for B. Braun to include
Venetec’s innovative StatLock® IV safety securement device
with B. Braun’s ULTRASITE® needle-free capless valve
IV system and for B. Braun to include Venetec's StatLock CV Plus
adhesive anchor in B. Braun's central-venous-catheter kits.

Needlesticks
and preventable adverse drug events cost the healthcare system
billions annually. Primary prevention devices such as ULTRASITE

workers' exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

B. Braun’s ULTRASITE Needle-Free IV System is designed to
reduce accidental needlesticks when injecting, aspirating, or
infusing fluids and medications. ULTRASITE is a patented positive
displacement valve designed to prevent blood from being drawn
back into the valve.
Venetec’s
StatLock IV is clinically proven to secure intravenous catheters
far more reliably than tape or suture. The adhesive anchor protects
healthcare workers against needlesticks by reducing the number
of premature, unscheduled catheter restarts – a primary cause
of clinician exposure to bloodborne pathogens from hollow-bore
IV introducer needles. Catheter restarts also increase hard-dollar
costs for healthcare providers – including the costs of IV
catheters, IV start kits, Tegaderm® or other occlusive dressings,
IV tubing and fluids.
Partnering
for CVC Solutions
Under the second agreement, B. Braun's central-venous-catheter
systems will include Venetec’s StatLock CV Plus adhesive
anchor. StatLock CV minimizes catheter-related infections and
eradicates dangerous suture-related needlesticks, by eliminating
sutures for securement of central venous catheters. B. Braun already
incorporates the StatLock CV Plus device with its Accuguide®
peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) and midline catheter
systems.
