Contiplex Tuohy
The Contiplex Tuohy needle was developed and patented in collaboration with Duke University's department of anesthesia.
NEW! Contiplex Tuohy Tray with Accufuser® Plus Pump
B. Braun will soon offer the ultimate in peri-/ post-operative pain management and reimbursement convenience by pairing up the Contiplex Tuohy needle and Accufuser Plus disposable pump (275mL capacity, 5mL basal rate, 2mL bolus/15 min.) in a convenient procedural tray.
Contiplex Tuohy consists of an insulated 18G Tuohy needle with a pin-point electrode exposed at the leading edge of the bevel. The Tuohy bevel is advantageous for two reasons: the Tuohy needle curve facilitates catheter passage into the nerve sheath; and, the Tuohy bevel is a Huber-type atraumatic bevel.
A conducting lead wire is integrated onto the needle hub and shaft to conveniently connect to your Stimuplex nerve stimulator unit.
Also included is a hemostasis valve assembly that has a sideport with 20 inches of extension tubing. This assembly allows the physician (or assistant) to aspirate and/or inject while stimulating. Most importantly, this assembly preserves your "immobile needle" technique by allowing passage of your indwelling catheter without the need to remove the extension tubing or the stimulating lead.
The indwelling catheter is a 20G multi-port, closed tip polyamide nylon catheter.
Contiplex Tuohy is currently available in four configurations:
- 18G × 1½ inch non-winged Tuohy needle
CNB150 (331695)
- 18G × 2 inch non-winged Tuohy needle
CNB200T (331691)
- 18G × 4 inch winged Tuohy needle
CNB400 (331693)
- 18G × 6 inch winged Tuohy needle
CNB600 (331694)
These four configurations enable usage of the Contiplex Tuohy for practically all continuous peripheral nerve blocks of the upper and lower extremities.
All Contiplex systems provide physicians with regional anesthesia continuous block options for procedures where central neuraxial blockade is contraindicated.
NEW! Be sure to ask about our new Contiplex Nerve Block Support Tray - NB300 (332105). This support tray contains all of the components you need to complete your continuous peripheral nerve block: clear plastic drape, skin marker, ruler, Tegaderm, Steri-strips, 5mL lidocaine 1%, plus assorted syringes and hypodermic needles. Ask your local B. Braun representative for ordering information.
Contiplex D
Contiplex D is the next generation of catheter-over-needle continuous peripheral nerve block devices from B. Braun. Contiplex D offers several distinct advancements in continuous peripheral block device design.
These enhancements include:
- Integrated stimulating cable and extension tubing onto the 20G cannula to allow aspiration and/or injection while still stimulating
- Conducting cannula is now a fully coated D Series design with pin point electrode tip concentrating stimulating current at extreme tip
- 15° and 30° bevel design choices
Contiplex D still uses the same 20G open tip polyamide indwelling catheter.
Contiplex A
Contiplex A is the original continuous brachial plexus nerve block set from B. Braun Medical found in the CNB200 set and the CBP18K kit. Contiplex A is an 18G insulating IV-style catheter over a 20G needle design. The 20G needle is an atraumatic short bevel cannula that serves as the conducting lead when used with Stimuplex®. Use with Stimuplex requires the Contiplex Connecting Cable.
Contiplex can also be used without Stimuplex if you are identifying a perivascular sheath by fascial "click".
Once the target nerve bundle has been identified, the 18G IV-style catheter is walked off of the conducting 20G needle. A 20G open tip polyamide indwelling catheter is inserted through a threading assist guide and through the Contiplex sheath (see below).
