B. Braun Medical Collaborates with First Databank to Offer Clinical Decision Support Resources

The industry’s first implementation of an infusion pump drug library collaboration with FDB.

BETHLEHEM, PA – December 3, 2015 – B. Braun Medical Inc. will offer healthcare professionals extensive clinical support resources for drug libraries by collaborating with a leading provider of drug knowledge, First Databank (FDB). This represents the industry’s first implementation of an infusion pump drug library collaboration with FDB.

B. Braun Medical has entered into an innovative agreement with FDB, whose drug information helps healthcare professionals make precise medication-related decisions. FDB’s evidence-based Infusion Knowledge™ will power B. Braun Medical’s DoseGuard™ drug library dose error reduction software within the company’s second-generation, large-volume Infusomat® Space Pump.

“Our innovative drug library software furthers our commitment to reducing medication errors and improving patient outcomes,” said Mike Golebiowski, Vice President of Marketing, Automation and Infusion Systems at B. Braun Medical. “This collaboration with FDB will give healthcare professionals enhanced drug library configuration management and clinical support tools.”

Key elements of FDB’s added capabilities include:

  • An online collaboration tool for simplifying the approval process, reducing the number of meetings and overall time required to create a drug library that includes comparison tools and audit history.
  • Easy user interface for creating the drug library with auto-populated and customizable drug hard and soft limits.
  • Access to FDB reference materials used by FDB’s experienced pharmaceutical staff to help hospitals create drug-specific summaries.

“Pharmacists, nurses, and physicians are working harder than ever and are challenged to keep up-to-date on new and changing drug dosing information for IV medications,” said Bob Katter, Executive Vice President for FDB. “We are pleased to be working with B. Braun to bring FDB’s evidenced-based Infusion Knowledge content and unique collaboration tools to make it easier and faster to create and manage a drug library for smart pumps for these busy professionals.”

B. Braun Medical will be highlighting its Synchronized Intelligence™ Infusion Platform and DoseGuard drug library at its booth #2147 during the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists conference in New Orleans, La., Dec. 6-10.
