B. Braun to Launch the Only Macro and Micro Compounder with 26-lead preassembled sets

APEX™ Compounding System

BETHLEHEM, PA – March 17, 2016 – With safety, accuracy, ease of use, and efficiency as the key drivers behind its innovative design, B. Braun Medical Inc. will showcase its new macro and micro compounder – APEX™ Compounding System at this year’s National Home Infusion Association (NHIA) Conference & Exposition at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, March 21-23 in New Orleans.
“The APEX Compounding System represents the latest advancement in macro and micro compounding technology and was specifically designed to address the immediate needs of critically ill patients – from neonates to adults, while also meeting the critical needs of pharmacists,” said Mike Golebiowski, Vice President of Marketing, Automation and Infusion Systems at B. Braun Medical.
“For the first time, pharmacists have a choice in using a compounder that is able to compound both macro and micronutrients,” he said. From its large user interface and 26-lead preassembled sets to its dual-drive filling technology and automated delivery as low as 0.2 mL, APEX is designed to outperform existing compounders.
APEX works with its own proprietary clinical decision support software – TPN Manager – which incorporates Trissel’s™ Ca/P Safety Check Software. Since TPN Manager is browser-based, healthcare providers can enter parenteral nutrition orders at the patient’s bedside using a tablet computer and electronically transmit those orders directly to pharmacy for authorization. The order then automatically routes to the APEX compounder without the need for transcription. “The direct communication is designed to help reduce manual programming errors, eliminate transcription errors, and expedite patient care,” Golebiowski said.
APEX is the newest addition to B. Braun’s Clinical Nutrition 360 offering, which is a comprehensive approach to meeting the individualized clinical needs of patients and customers. Whether through in-house compounding or outsourcing, Clinical Nutrition 360 can help optimize the safe preparation of customized parenteral nutrition products.
NHIA attendees can visit B. Braun’s booth #217 to experience real-time demonstrations of the APEX Compounding System and learn about the company’s extensive portfolio of home infusion products.
