B. Braun to Showcase its Innovative Synchronized Intelligence™ Infusion Platform at AACN

AACN 2016

BETHLEHEM, PA – May 16, 2016 – B. Braun Medical Inc. will showcase its latest portfolio of infusion pump products and integrated technologies, designed to improve patient safety and outcomes, at the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition, May 17-19, at the New Orleans, LA Convention Center.

B. Braun will showcase the benefits of its recently updated second-generation, large-volume Infusomat® Space Pump when wirelessly integrated with a healthcare provider’s EMR system. At Booth #3227, visitors can see demonstrations of the pump’s AutoComplete™ Integrated EMR functions. AutoComplete includes auto-programming, auto-documentation, and auto-notification – the highest level of integration on B. Braun’s
Synchronized Intelligence™ Infusion Platform and the first wireless integrated technology system for IV pump infusion that is IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) certified for all three AutoComplete integration functions.

“AutoComplete not only helps clinicians to reduce manual data entry errors and save time by increasing documentation accuracy, but also facilitates improved reporting to help prevent alarm fatigue,” said Mike Golebiowski, Vice President of Marketing, Automation and Infusion Systems at B. Braun Medical. The issue of alarm fatigue is becoming a major concern for healthcare providers as more devices are implemented in the healthcare environment. In 2013, ECRI Institute recognized alarm hazards as the number one health technology hazard and the Joint Commission established a new 2014 national patient safety goal to address improving the safety of clinical alarm systems in hospitals.

“B. Braun’s Synchronized Intelligence seamlessly integrates real-time data, pumps, and reporting with other platforms for system-wide compatibility in an effort to improve patient outcomes. And when combined with education and institutional leadership, it facilitates up to 100% drug library compliance, a reduction in infusion-related medication errors, and a decrease in unnecessary alarm alerts," Golebiowski said.

In scenarios similar to what clinicians face every day, booth attendees will experience B. Braun’s integrated IV infusion pump portfolio featuring the Infusomat® Space Infusion System, the Outlook® Infusion Pump, real-time infusion insight through its PharmView application, and real-time wireless reporting with its DoseTrac® Infusion Management Software.

Additionally, four ExpoEd presentations will be presented at B. Braun’s booth:

  • Intuitive and Safer Infusion Pumps Through Human Factors Design Principles, presented by Christopher Flewwelling, MHSc, Human Factors Specialist, Healthcare Human Factors
  • Why Is It Always Beeping? Smart Pump Alarms: An Interactive Experience on Why and When They Occur, presented by Timothy Kavanagh, BScN, RN, CRNI, Clinical Zone Manager, B. Braun of Canada, Ltd., and Jennifer Lehr, RN, BA, Clinical Nurse Consultant, B. Braun Medical Inc.
