B. Braun is working to mitigate major constraints on the U.S. supply of IV fluids as a result of damage to an IV fluids manufacturer in North Carolina after Hurricane Helene hit the Eastern U.S. in September, 2024.
We worked closely with officials from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Food and Drug Administration to address this issue and help alleviate any impact on patient care.
As part of our response, we increased production of tubing, valves, connectors and other devices needed for infusion therapy at B. Braun’s manufacturing plant in Allentown, PA. The increase will boost the annual number of IV sets B. Braun delivers to healthcare providers by more than 30 million. This expansion will create approximately 200 new jobs in Allentown.
“Events like these are why B. Braun invested well over $1 billion in the last five years to increase our capacity to supply these critical healthcare products from facilities on both coasts. We will continue to do everything we can, working closely with government agencies, industry partners and other stakeholders, to help ensure that providers and patients get the infusion therapy products they need.”
- Rob Albert, Chief Executive Officer, B. Braun of America.
In February 2025, Life Sciences Pennsylvania (LSPA) honored B. Braun with the 2024 Patient Impact Award for our rapid steps to secure the supply of critical IV fluids in the U.S. amid the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. The LSPA Patient Impact Award recognizes a medicine, therapy, or medical organization that has made a significant contribution to the quality of healthcare or length of life of patients. B. Braun is proud to partner with LSPA to support the growth and success of Pennsylvania’s life sciences industry.

We recently celebrated National Apprenticeship Week and recognized our apprentices across our Allentown, PA and Irvine, CA facilities. Our apprenticeship program allows us to invest in employees’ development, provide opportunities for employees to invest in themselves, and create pathways for employee job growth. Thank you to the over 20 B. Braun apprentices located across the country and for your important contributions.
Internships and apprenticeships can be excellent ways to get a foot in the door in today’s world. At B. Braun and Aesculap, several of our employees took advantage of those opportunities to not only learn about our business, but about our people. Their stories reveal that while they may have come to us for a career head start, they’re staying because of our employees and our culture.
Visit our YouTube page to learn more about our employees who started out as interns and advanced their careers at B. Braun in our “B. More--Internships and Apprenticeships” series.
